Day 54: looking back at ALL HALLOW'S EVE

(Scarier than Gary Busey...Not really.)

Andrew Burton / Oooooh. Are you frightened? Turned on? Can it be both?

Halloween - everyone's favorite Pagan holiday (the British do celebrate it too, it's popular throughout Western Europe) took place last weekend. So that meant clubbing in costume. The British like to take a much more gothic and (slightly) less sluttier* direction when it comes to Halloween costumes. Bloodied faces, gory wounds and eye shadow are all essential to a UK costume. These demonic creatures equal great photos. The only problem is we had no costumes. But we ad-libbed.

Juliette did an excellent impression of Sarah Palin. I did my best impression of a bloodied face, gory, eye shadow-wearing British Halloween costume. And photographer Andrew Burton went as a photographer. This was genius. Andrew, who shot (for Newsweek?) at the Beijing Olympics, wore his Beijing outfit, and his costume was so authentic that the bodyguards at the club didn't even search him or make him pay. They must've thought he was doing some picture takingfor some publication. That was awesome. And it became more awesome once you realize how "club lighting" + "people in Halloween costumes" = sick photos.

Warning: I'm in a few of Andrew's best photos. They are not for the faint of heart.

HALLOWEEN IN LONDON (Photos by Andrew Burton):

The Brits love blood and guts. It's that morbid British humor.

The same girl from the top photo. Except this time someone slit her throat.

My costume was similar. I said "Juliette, I need a free costume. Use whatever tools you have to make me into a emo punk zombie. It's the most popular costume in all of England."

Second most popular costume in England.

The Brits love Sarah Palin. Must be that morbid British humor.

Booooo? More like blueeeee! Too easy.

The quintessential Halloween photo. Gnarly ghost photos! Spooky.

I'm trippin' balls.

Paparazzo Andrew B. and Veep candidate Sarah P. - partying together?!?

Foot notes

*On that risque and very offensive link, there's a photo of Leeloo from "The Fifth Element."
I'd like to propose a new holiday called "Fifth Element" day where we all dress as characters from the Fifth Element. Sure it's a mediocre film, but the characters are amazing. Who's never wanted to walk out one day dressed as Gary Oldman's weird villain dude with his Hitleresque soul patch? Are you telling me you never wanted to dress as Chris Tucker's Ruby? Or perhaps KORBEN DALLAS!!!

And whoever can dress up as that blue, opera singing alien woman...mad props.
